A personal tribute to MLK

Tolerance is not enough! If we don’t teach our children acceptance, then we will never change and grow beyond old prejudices and bigoted thoughts. For 17 years, I had been lucky enough to have had the support of my administration to conduct a simulated march on Washington, like the one in 1963. Over the years, I am happy to say, it has gotten easier to teach the idea of acceptance. But although we seem far from the beginnings of the Civil Rights Movement, we are not.

There are still signs of inequality and prejudice, and they are more far-reaching than skin color. Religious prejudice abounds, cultural prejudice is thriving, and racial prejudice has not been eradicated.

But there is hope. Our children. Teach them well the tenets of acceptance and there will be further change. And while we’re at it, lets practice what we preach.
