A New Tale from the Coffin… JoAnne Kendrick

Tales from the Coffin book two is out, and if you can tear yourself away from the smexy cover below…. you can indulge in a naughty ghost hunter tale set in York and integrated into Lucy and Estella’s story. It’s just $1.99 to buy! And you won’t believe the ending. Something tells me a certain character from this threesome will be back in a later coffin story ;) oh, and watch for my future releases. I’ve a lot planned for this year! So far a book a month until August. But I’m sure I’ll be adding to that soon!

As Estella and Lucy’s story  unfolds a little more in each Tales from the Coffin book, I do recommend reading the series in order to get ‘the bigger picture’. But they can also be read as stand alones.

Book One: Strange and Beautiful

Book Two: All the Pretty Faces

Book Three: Bittersweet Symphony (coming August-ish)

Book Four: Treacle and Treason (coming Oct 26th)

More to follow.

BOOK TWO, All the Pretty Faces
Estella is on edge. Why? The Bone Cruncher wants to collect his debt early. What’s a girl to do? Get her zombie lover to do her dirty work for her of course, while she entertains you with tea and a ghost hunter sandwich….
MidNight, a paranormal magazine show, transformed Lindsay from a jittery legal assistant into an almost famous TV presenter. Ghost hunting was the last job Lindsay ever expected to see herself doing, or loving. Best of all, the show had helped her face fears; the dark, and her own shadow. If only she could conquer Walker, too, her long time just-good-friends buddy. When her co-host Debra puts an offer of a threesome on the table after a live filming at York Castle Prison, Lindsay takes it into careful consideration. A menage with Walker and her nemesis will complete her confidence trip. But when things start going bump in the night, will three be a crowd?

Estella, Vampire Queen of the Rejected, strutted back and forth across the basement, her feet clad in lace-up Victorian ankle books. Once upon a time white, they were now scuffed and stained. The metal-tipped heels chipped at the aged floorboards as she shuffled like a tap dancer on speed. Her vampiric movements caused her raspberry-red hair to flap about like butterfly wings, disturbing the stale, dusty air.

“Keep this up, and our guest will think you’re one of Dracula’s Brides,” Lucy crooned, her Yorkshire accent as crass as her platinum hair.

She didn’t just go there, did she? Estella didn’t have time for a lovers’ tiff, because The Bone Cruncher was coming early. His energy drew closer, raw and dripping with testosterone.

The strange tingle of nerves in her stomach wasn’t her style. Had she succumbed to lusting after men again? Or was it plain old hunger? Must be the latter. She had a sexy bombshell to quench her desires of the flesh—albeit rotting zombie flesh—and she’d sworn herself off men since the whole stood-up-at-the-altar-by-Dracula thing two centuries ago.

“Lucy, be a dear and send him down here, would you?”

“Send who downstairs?” Footsteps from above. Heavy. Masculine. They drew the blonde’s glance upward, and she sniffed the air. Recognition hit her expression. “The Bone Cruncher? How did you do that?”

“Dearest, I’ve told you a million times. I’m clairvoyant.”

Lucy rolled her eyes in disbelief. But the joke was on her. One of the eyeballs got stuck, and she had to finger it back into the normal position.

Estella snorted. “Yes. Really. I taught the Fox Sisters all they know, erm, knew.”

Lucy raised an eyebrow to further display how unbelievable it all sounded all while keeping her sight dead ahead, obviously trying not to find herself in the buggy-eyed predicament again.

Estella tsked and waved her away. “Oh, quit acting up in front of our guest and go get the Bone Cruncher.”

“Fox Sisters indeed. Sounds about right. They were charlatans, too. Only got away with making people believe they could talk to the dead because Victorian folk were gullible as f**k.”

“Am I gullible, dear?”

“Too right you are. Left at the altar much?”

“For goodness sakes, do as you’re told.”

“Like a dog, do anything for a bone.”

Estella slapped her hands to her hips and turned her nose up to assert some authority, and to distract from any telltale excitement of the impending visit from a certain man. She hoped it didn’t mean her feelings toward her little deady bear were waning. “You’ll do well to remember your place, dear Lucy.”

“Where’s that? Ball and chained up?”

Estella’s eyes lit. How silly of me to think I could stop adoring her. “That could work.”

A Bittersweet Release: Freedom in Chains

A couple of years ago I stumbled across a website that I found intriguing. It linked to an internet radio station and had fascinating shows lined up that informed us, entertained us, and helped nurture the strength and confidence inside us. Of course, I was hooked immediately. There was an added benefit- we got to have blog pages of our own right on the site!

This website is I met Kay Van Hoesen, a fabulously talented woman who created the place, and others who had joined, needing to find their footing again. I shared some empowering poetry I’d written and found it had been appreciated. Over the past couple of years, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my attachment to the place. I don’t get there nearly as much as I used to, given the time constraints in my life, but I do always return. Like a baby bird returns to her nest.

This is where I met Dottie Laster, as well. And this is where my blinders came off to an insidious crime against humanity. Not too long after I joined I found and listened to Dottie’s radio show, TRAFFICKED. She exposes and explains the underworld of human trafficking of all kinds- slavery, sex. She reports on the ongoing efforts to prosecute those guilty of trafficking. And to this very day, she fights for the victims. Her company, seeks to bring awareness to companies about how to keep from hiring people who are being trafficked.

Breaking news came across the HWTS wire one day. A young woman had reached out to this very site and Dottie in an attempt to be rescued. After much machinations, terrifying moments, and a team of angels, she succeeded. She was brought to a facility specializing in helping those who have suffered long-term abuse and needed long-term care. It has been a long bumpy road, but she is healing and growing and learning what it is to be free and responsible for her own life.

Kay asked if I would write a short story celebrating this young woman’s freedom as well as bring awareness to the plight of so many. I agreed readily, and FREEDOM IN CHAINS is the result. I initially released it here, on my website, and simul-posted it on others’ sites who agreed to do so, on the anniversary of her rescue. But now, I feel like it needs a permanent place to live. A place where people can see it, purchase it, and know that by doing so, they’ve taken their BLINDERS OFF to this worldwide crime against humanity.

FREEDOM IN CHAINS releases today, and it is a bittersweet moment. I wish I didn’t have to write it. I wish there was no such depraved act such as human trafficking. But there is, and I refuse to put my head in the sand. Whenever I write something regarding trafficking, I use the phrase, BLINDERS OFF. This is to bring to our attention how so often we put them on to deny what’s going on around us, and trafficking is as close as our next door neighbor in many cases.

I hope you will go to FREEDOM in CHAINS on amazon or smashwords and purchase a copy today:

Crisis Diverted! A Space to Write…

Over the past few weeks I have been plagued with a finicky muse. She finally told me that the space I was using to write just wasn’t cutting it for her. The living room couch- no good. The office upstairs- nope. My bedroom- not happening. It seemed that everywhere I tried to write, there was always noise. Familiar noise that distracted me.

So I decided to block it out with white noise. Too high-pitched. But the pink noise was lovely for  a while. But then it became irritating to my ears, as well. So I tried music, something I already knew was a stretch. It’s so ingrained in me that I’m constantly distracted by it, so I didn’t hold out much hope. As suspected, I loved the music, but didn’t get much writing done.

Well, my aunt came to my writing rescue! She offered her guest room, detached from the house, as a writing den whenever I wish. Just a room with a bathroom and closet. (No this picture is NOT her guest room.) SCORE! A perfectly quiet space to create. No more noise, no more masking the noise with more noise. I’ve been there twice this week and my muse is so happy. I have a snack table big enough for my laptop and a folding chair, just a tad uncomfortable as to keep me actively engaged. HEAVEN. I’m finally able to HEAR my story and write it down. This is a massive deal. You see, by next week, I’ll have a book to edit and yet another to continue writing. I need my peace and quiet to reach my goals. And so I shall have it. Ahhh!

Here are some famous writers’ writing areas…

FREE for 24 Hours! My Anomaly: Picture Perfect

Anomaly? Why would I call PICTURE PERFECT an anomaly? Well, as you all know, I write paranormal romance. I love all things having to do with the battle between GOOD and EVIL. There’s such a rush I experience after writing  scenes where humans and immortals are tested. Where darkness seems to have the upper hand, but we, on the side of the light, rally back and survive victorious.

So, where on EARTH did PICTURE PERFECT come from? There’s not a shred of paranormal in it anywhere! There’s a villain, all right. She’s a badass bitch, but she hasn’t been sent by Satan to wreak havoc on my hero and heroine. Jamie and Hope are two normal, human individuals who have interesting careers and are like most of us, seeking a lasting love.

PICTURE PERFECT is a romantic suspense story.  And it came not from the twisted side of my brain, but from the tender, romantic side. It was a story that had to be written. I saw it as a Lifetime TV movie in my mind and wrote exactly what I saw. There’s a lot of sweet and charm along with spice and tension. And there’s more story to be told. So be on the lookout for these characters to return in a sequel.

If you know me for my paranormal, will you still like PICTURE PERFECT? I think so. My personality is the common thread. If you enjoy the banter, snark,  sensuality, and personalities of my paranormal realm, you will love Jamie and Hope.

Lucky for you, PICTURE PERFECT is FREE for 24 hours. That means at some point soon after midnight Saturday until midnight Sunday, you can grab yourself a copy absolutely free. Where? CLICK ON THE COVER…
