I’m Very “Hoppy” to Meet You…

Thank you to Kris Tualla for “tagging” me in this Blog Hop! I enjoy getting to know people and hope you enjoy getting to know me a bit.

I am an author of paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and contemporary romantic suspense.  It seems the longer I write, the darker my stories get, but I just can’t get enough of Good vs Evil! When I’m not writing, I teach language arts to middle school kids. I have two teenage daughters and my wonderful husband knows that’s why I dye my hair religiously. These are a few of my favorite things: writing and reading of course, chocolate, listening to music with lyrics or melodies that speak to me, soaking baths, singing in the shower, dancing, photography, scrapbooking, and laughing at jokes because, Lord knows, I can’t tell one!

1. What am I working on now?

Currently, I am working on ANGEL RISING, Brethren Series Book 4. Hannah Livingston, the child sought after by Satan in TRINITY, has grown up and is about to become immortal on her 36th birthday. He’s back for her with a vengeance, but he’s about to find out just how powerful a Brethren Warrior she really is. Apocalyptic changes, a new war, and a complicated love for the ages. This is one story not to be missed!

2. How does my work differ from other books in its genre?

Many other authors who write paranormal romance and use angels in their stories cast them as fallen or blended with other characteristics. My angels are SUPERHEROES… with issues. No matter what story you read of the Brethren, you can rest assured that they will always be the good guys. Troubled sometimes? Yes. Conflicted a lot? For sure. My angels, although immortal, have very human flaws that they wrestle with for eternity.

3. Why do I write what I do?

I am drawn to the endless battle of good versus evil- in our daily lives as well as fiction. So, I choose to write stories with happy endings, because no matter how dark and desperate it gets, no matter how beaten down the good have become, they will also rise victoriously to rule the world.

4. How does my writing process work?

I usually begin with a “what if” question and let it percolate in my mind for a while. As possible answers arise, a story emerges. From that point, I get pretty technical. I choose a setting and research it thoroughly. I want to know not just what it looks like, but what it FEELS like to be there. What am I hearing? Touching? Seeing? Tasting? Then, I create in-depth biographical sketches of my characters. Readers may never know everything about my characters, but I must in order to deliver 3-dimensional characters people will care about. Next, I write a very short synopsis of the story for me to refer to as I write. Finally, I WRITE THE STORY, revise and edit a gazillion times, and send it off to either my personal editor or my publisher’s editor, depending on which publishing path I take for a story.
